Father Robert Jones was born in Elmhurst, where he was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish, and attended Immaculate Conception Elementary School and Immaculate Conception High School. He then attended Northern Illinois University where he received a degree in Business Marketing. After working five years in retail management, with Toys R Us, he studied for the priesthood at St. Mary of the Lake Seminary, in Mundelein. Fr. Jones was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Arthur J. O’Neill, on June 6, 1992.
Father Jones first served as Parochial Vicar at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, Crystal Lake, (1992-1995), while teaching part-time at Marian Central Catholic High School, McHenry.
He was next assigned as Parochial Vicar at St. John Neumann Parish, St Charles, (1995-1998), and teaching at part-time at St. Edward Central Catholic High School, Elgin.
He served as Pastor of Holy Cross Parish, Stockton, (1998-2001). Then he served as Pastor of St. Patrick Parish, Dixon (2001-2007), also serving on the Board of Education for Newman Central Catholic High School, Sterling. He was the Pastor of St. Mary Parish, Woodstock, and St. Patrick Parish, Hartland, (2007-2008). In late 2008, Father Jones became Pastor of the newly formed St. Katharine Drexel Parish, Sugar Grove, (2008-2021), where he also served on the Executive Committee for Aurora Central Catholic High School’s Education Board. Fr. Jones returned to St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, to become the current Pastor, in June of 2021.
He has also served as Knights of Columbus Chaplain, Dixon, (2001-2007) and Sugar Grove, (2013-2021). He served as Chairman of the Diocesan Presbyteral Council, (2013-2017). He has been a Parish Priest Consultor and member of the Clergy Health Board since 2015. He was Dean of the Aurora Deanery, (2020-2021), and appointed Dean of the McHenry Deanery in June 2021.
